Synopsis
FAMILY follows four fierce women as they navigate the pussies, parties and potlucks in New York City’s queerest borough, Brooklyn.

It is a crucial time at 195 Lewis. Ambitious entrepreneur, Yuri Battle struggles to balance the grind of propelling her career as an artist and the kinks of her polyamorous relationship. Yuri’s longtime girlfriend, Camille Darby is currently unemployed and busies herself with retail therapy while ensuring that her smart-ass little sister, Staceyanne, doesn’t let any yellow dresses distract her from graduation. It’s just another Paper Over Pussy party at one-nine-five when Yuri’s college friend, Kris Wilkerson, pops up on her stoop…

Join Yuri, Camille, Staceyanne and Kris as they confront the challenges of work, womanhood and the world while redefining what it means to be FAMILY.

Lead Characters

YURI* (27), 5’9” African-American; mature and extremely independent; masculine-of-center presenting with a touch of femininity; ridiculous swag; moved to Brooklyn after graduating from Howard University. Yuri struggles to balance work, home, and her new lover. The arrival of college friend Kris brings more secrets to the surface. But it’s okay - Yuri has it all under control.

CAMILLE* (29). 5’8” second generation Bajan-American; grew up in Flatbush with upwardly mobile parents; femme fashionista; will get upset if you ask her to take off her shoes in an apartment because it sets off her entire outfit BUT will ask the same of you when entering her home. This Brooklyn native is no dummy, but even with a PhD. in Caribbean Literature, the job search is taking much longer than expected. With Yuri being home less and less, Camille begins to question just how poly she really is.
Sign: Scorpio. Ritual: Fine Baths & Manicures. Medicine: Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.

KRIS (25), 5’7” African-American; Vegan enthusiast, Dallas native; doesn’t know if she wants to present masculine or feminine.  We see her develop her own sense of self/style. After moving to Brooklyn with just a dream and bookbag, Kris relies on her old friend, Yuri, to get adjusted. In BK, Kris looks for work, love and herself while finding some new friends along the way.
